Motorised Horse Treks.
We have found that most guests want to play cowboy but are a bit apprehensive about going riding on a real horse. Therefore we do not provide Horse Treks in the true sense of the word. However we do provide Motorised Horse Treks, utilising our Polaris Ranger Patrol vehicles which can take you to our magnificent back country wilderness. You are able to ride through rugged hill country farmland, beautiful native bush and on the historic trails of the Ruatiti and Mangaparua valleys. Add spectacular views, a touch of ‘The Old West’ and some good old fashioned fun.
Hop on board for an adventure
Full length riding coats and oilskin cowboy hats are provided for inclement weather, but bring any of your own gear to look the part. Regardless of your level of fitness, if you want to take a Motorised Horse Trek ride we can arrange it, while you are with us. You will no longer have to suffer the discomfort of a real saddle and be sure that - "Even if you don’t ride like a real cowboy, you won’t have to walk like one".
Remember to take something warm when riding.
Up on the Central Plateau weather can be changeable, look across at the National Park peaks and on a good day see Mt Egmont in the distance. It could cool down so take a jacket. We also recommend hats with chin straps for protection against the New Zealand sun. No spurs are needed!
Refresh & revitalise yourself in absolute solitude
There's no ringing phone, no email, no fax machine, just you and your patrol vehicle. You can take a gently guided nature ride exploring unique native bush, bird and wildlife in absolute solitude. It is not unusual to ride along the bush trails and suddenly see wild deer or goats grazing ahead. Feel the remoteness and enjoy an unspoiled environment. Because of the isolation and lack of human presence you are given a rare opportunity to visit a special part of New Zealand.
